SITA EK (Only one) SITAMARHI DO (Two) - HOW & WHY?

SITA EK (Only one) SITAMARHI  DO (TWO)-
HOW & WHY ?

Every one knows that Bhagwan Sri Ram has only one wife Sita. It was an ideal monogamous marriage but many may not be knowing that there are two places with single name Sitamarhi but both associated with Sita Mata. One place is in Bihar and the other in Uttar Pradesh.

Sitamarhi of Bihar is a well known Hindu pilgrimage considered as birthplace of Sita - can be called "Sita Prakat Sthal". A temple dedicated to Sita, called Janki Mandir lies near Sitamarhi town. As per tradition & legend goddess Sita sprang into life when Raja Janak  was ploughing the field at Punaura near Sitamarhi in order to please Lord Indra, the god of rains. The place derived its lovely name Sitamarhi from this legend.

It is said that Raja Janak excavated a tank where Sita emerged and after her marriage set up stone figures of Ram, Sita & Laxman to mark the site. The tank is known as Janki-Kund or Sita Kund.

Another Sitamarhi  - Sita Samahit Sthal is  situated almost midway between Varanasi and Allahabad just beside NH 2 in Uttar Pradesh near river Ganga in Baripur village of Bhadohi district.

It is said that the temple of Sitamarhi UP is the place where Mata Sita went into earth's (Her mother) lap when she willed it while she was living with Saint Valmiki in the forest. This temple is called Sita Samahit Sthal Temple.

I was also not aware that there is another Sitamarhi. When I was coming back to Delhi  from my village Badaka Singhanpura through NH2 by road I glanced upon a signage "SITA SAMAHIT STHAL SITAMARHI" almost mid way between Varanasi and Allahabad. My curiosity led me to do some research  and ultimately I came with this article which I wanted to share with you people. Jai Hind.
