DR JITENDRA PRASAD KHATAIT :
PRIDE OF THARUS OF WEST CHAMPARAN BIHAR
Till the close of 20th century, Tharus of West Chamaparn, Bihar remained a close society not coming out of the boundaries of Tharuhat - rather they were afraid of or scared of moving out due to obvious reasons. But with change in Century from 20th to 21st Century there has been tremendous transformation in Tharu society, there has been fundamental changes in their status as well as in West Champaran district. Jharkhand was carved out from Bihar & later Tharus of West Champaran got the status of Schedule Tribe in 2003 thus becoming major Schedule Tribe of Bihar. West Champaran district got connected through railway from all parts of India thus facilitating easy movement of the Tharus. Mobile connectivity led to communication revolution not only in other parts of the country but also in the backward & neglected area such as Tharuhat of West Champaran.
With the change in the circumstances, there is change in attitude, change in beahviour, change in personality, and opening of the floodgate of opportunities and consequently flowering or blossoming of till now suppressed talent.
Dr Jitendra Prasad Khatait is now pride of the Tharus of West Champaran & immense source of inspiration for his tribe. He comes from Narayan Garh village, West Champaran Bihar. Let us look at his CV which itself is enough to silence those people who call the Tharus "Fool" or "Bagad".
