Ramban is a town in Ramban district of Jammu & Kashmir. It is situated on the banks of Chenab river on the National Highway. Ramban is almost 150 km from Jammu and 150 km from Srinagar thus making it the central point on Jammu - Srinagar Highway.
There is an important fort known as Gajpat fort on the top of mountain. It is said that once Sheikh Abdullah was kept imprisoned for few days.

Construction work is going very fast for making Jammu-Srinagar Highway a 4-lane Highway. Many tunnels can be seen coming up while moving on the old Jammu-Srinagar Highway which is very dangerous, scary, hair-raising, spine-chilling, horrifying and almost closed in winter.
The new 4-lane highway will not only shorten the distance between Jammu and Srinagar from around 300 km to 238 km but also travel time will be reduced from present almost 11hours to barely 5 hours. Not only that. The travel will be smooth, fast, comfortable, and the highway will be open 24x7 all throughout the year thus bringing Jammu and Srinagar closer to each other.
