Pamban Bridge connects the town of Rameshwaram on Pamban island to mainland India. Pamban Railway bridge opened on 24th February 1914. The rail bridge is a conventional bridge resting on concrete piers but has double- leaf bascule section. It can be raised to let ships and barrages pass through. A road bridge known as Annai Indira Gandhi Road bridge was also constructed parallel to the rail bridge in 1988. Pamban Road bridge connects National Highway NH 49 with Rameshwaram island.It stands on the Palk Strait and between the shores of Mandapam on the Indian mainland and Pamban on Rameshwaram island.Let us watch this video for watching the spectacular Palk Strait from a moving bus.
