Baramulla on Jhelum Downstream Jammu & Kashmir

Baramulla is a city in the Baramulla district of Jammu & Kashmir and situated on the bank of Jhelum downstream 55 km away from Srinagar on NH-1 - the summer capital of the State. The city was known in ancient period as "Varahamula" which is Sanskrit for 'boar's molar'. The city of Baramulla was founded by Raja Bhimsina in 2306 BC. A number of visitors have come to Baramulla including Xuanzang from China and a British historian Moorcraft. Baramulla has been Gateway of Kashmir Valley. From the very beginning it has had religious importance . Hindu Teerth and Buddhist Viharas made the sacred for both Hindus and Buddhists.Later it became important for Muslims and Sikhs also. Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs, and even Christians have continued to live in harmony and contributed to the culture of Baramulla. St Joseph School is the oldest missionary school in Kashmir valley. Let us watch Baramulla from a bridge on river Jhelum through this video.
