The King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej has not been just a King but he has been a King with distinction, a king with difference, a King with dissimilarity. He has been the world's longest reigning monarch.

King Bhumibol reigned for almost seven decades ie seventy years after ascending the throne in 1946. He has been regarded as a pillar of stability during decades of rapid development and political upheaval.

King Bhumidol has been not only a symbol of unity but a force for unity. He has been seen as head of an institution central to Thai unity and also as a father- figure to the nation. There have been long concerns that without him divisions of the country could worsen.
