The first BJP ruled Assam Government has decided that all public offices should display the portrait of Ahom General Lachit Borphukan. The order applies to all educational institutes, boards, corporation , as well as autonomous bodies and agencies.This decision was taken to keep the legacy of Lachit Borphukan alive in the national life of Assam and portrait to reflect the legendary warrior's bravery.

Known as Kamrup-Kamakhya also , this Hindu temple is dedicated to mother goddess Kamakhya. This temple is also centre for Tantra worship which attracts thousands of tantra devotees in an annual festival known as Ambubachi Mela. Another annual celebration is the Manasha Puja. Durga Puja is also celebrated annually at Kamakhya during Navaratri.
