Tharus of West Champaran Bihar India are a unique tribe. People are though very simple but they know many things and possess knowledge on a number of subjects and issues. Since they live in close proximity with nature, they do know importance of  various kinds of trees & shrubs. Yogendra Prasad (Mahto), a Tharu Schedule Tribe of Bakhari Baazar village of Tharuhat of West Champaran, has been shown in this video interacting with Dr Ajay Kumar Ojha and describing the significance of Sakhua. Shorea robusta is also known as sal, sakhua or shala tree. It is a species of tree belonging to the Dipterocarpaceae family. This tree is native to Indian subcontinent. It is found mostly in Terai region of Indo-Nepal border from east to west in the Shivalik Hill Churia Range in the subtropical climate zone. This tree has religious significance also  in Hindu & Buddhist tradition.
