Cochin International Airport of Kerala State of India is truly an eco-friendly airport smartly marching towards a green future.

This is the first airport in the world to run completely on solar power. The airport started with small pilot project by installing a solar energy plant with 400 panels on its rooftop.

Later the airport became totally sufficient in meeting with its energy requirements.

Cochin International Airport is the seventh busiest airports in India handling over 1000 flights in a week.

"Cochin Model" is becoming very popular as airports across the country are showing keen interest in its solar energy management. Even some of the foreign countries are enthusiastic about learning the technique of harnessing sun's energy.

The airport has the solar carport or a car parking bay. It has 8,500 rooftop solar panels which can accommodate 14,000 cars at a time and has the capacity of generating 2.7 MW power.
