BHUTAN: A Land of Highest "Gross National Happiness" (GNH)
Bhutan is a very small land-locked country which is far away from materialism or materialistic attitude. People of Bhutan lead their lives based on moral values and remain happy. Once King of Bhutan Jigme Singye Wangchuck has said that Bhutan runs on Gross National Happiness (GNH) and not on Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Bhutan is one of the poorest country of the world but it is top on happiness index.
Materialistic development is not in the discussion here, till few years back there was no presence of Dish or Cable TV even.
Moral, Spiritual and Cultural upliftment are given importance in Bhutan.
Happiness Index is measured by four points:
Protection of cultural values
Protection of environment
Continuous development
Better administration
Economic development is supposed to be part of better administration but it is not the important one.
