Dhirendra Goswami to Dr Ajay Ojha on Mask Tradition in Majuli Assam India

Majuli is the largest river island of the world located in Assam India, Mask making is one of the most well known craft forms of Majuli in present day. But this craft is not practiced by all the existing Satras. Chamaguri Satra  is renowned    for making masks in the region. Bhakats of this Satra are known to make beautiful masks which are used for religious dance and drama and even exported to foreign countries. Dr Ajay Kumar Ojha fortunately got an opportunity to talk to Shri Dhirendra Goswami of Chamaguri Satra on the tradition of mask making craft in his showroom itself .

Majuli is magnificent and people here are marvellous.  Government should make every effort to save this island - cultural capital of Assam from gradual erosion.
