If one throws the K-word at any K-fan, one can watch genie emerging from the bottle. They will start narrating about how they have learnt the language so that they can watch K-dramas, K-films without resorting to sub-titles, how they sing along to their favourite songs.
The demography of the K-constituency is predominantly the teen and mid-twenties age group, and almost overwhelmingly female.
But please do not underestimate the power of word-of-mouth publicity in the spread of Korean wave even in the age of social media. This publicity has played a huge role in forwarding the popularization of K-pop and K-drama.
