Never before National Games spread across so many districts of the Host State. Most of the events generally  confined to one place which works as a hub.

The 35th National Games held in Kerala from 31st January to 14th February was a visual treat to Indian television viewers. It is reported that almost sixty percent of Indian households have watched some of the outstanding sporting moments of National Games through Doordarshan.
It was indeed a challenge for the National Games Organising Committee (NGOC) to organise the Games spread over seven districts of the State. For Doordarshan also it was a challenge in drawing out a coverage pattern. The event was the first of its kind, gauging by its enormity in terms of the number of venues prepared, towns, cities and villages involved and sportspersons participating. Coverage took place from 30 locations for two weeks spread across 500 kms of Kerala. In terms of number of locations and spread this was the highest ever.
The highest ever contingent of Doordarshan for any sporting event in India gave a marvellous coverage to the National Games 2015 which was telecast nationwide and worldwide through Webcasting. In fact it was the first ever event in India to receive such a wide coverage fpr  so many continuous days. Doordarshan spared almost 565 hours of telecast for National Games 2015 which itself is a record in Indian television. National Network of DD gave 15 hours for National Games including live telecast of Opening and Closing Ceremonies and daily highlights. For the first time Opening Ceremony was telecast continuously for five hours from 6.15 pm to 11.15 pm in the prime time of National Network. DD Sports was a dedicated National Games Channel from 31st January to 14th February 2015. It was 24 hr telecast of Games in DD Sports for two weeks. The Grand Stand for DD Sports was almost round the clock.  DD Malayalam carried daily five hours by providing local Grand Stand and another one hour highlights daily with a repeat on the next morning. It will be interesting to calculate the air time value of the hours Doordarshan has dedicated to National Games. Total value of Telecast time is about 200 crores.
To build the sporting experience of supreme quality for its viewers, Doordarshan deployed a team of 849 professionals from 27 states of the country. 10 OB Vans (including High Definition) and 12 DSNGs (up linking to satellite) were stationed at 17 venues for live telecast and ENG camera units were deployed at 22 venues for extensive coverage. NLE –edit booths were deployed at all the venues for the preparation of highlights which enabled timely airing of the capsules.

The wonderful support given by Prasarbharati Broadcasting Corporation in making National Games 2015 a grand success is beyond words. The role of All India Radio in taking the Games to the sportslovers need to be appreciated. A team of 135 Radio professionals from 21 states reached various venues and gave live running commentary from 12 venues and reports from 27 other venues. There was a Grand Stand at AIR, Trivandrum and all other stations of AIR in the state were linked for the latest in National Games. Flash News was given every hour from all stations. Almost 93 hours of broadcast was given for National Games ( National hook-up- 24 hrs, AIR Kerala stations- 47 hrs, FM National- 10hrs, FM Gold Network- 7 hrs. , National hook-up: ’Kerala Flavours’- 5 hrs.).
Truly, the coverage of National Games by DD was gigantic in scope and the biggest ever undertaken by an agency in India involving 849 personnel at over 30 locations spread across 500km for 15 days continuously –the longest, largest and easily the biggest ever.
Thanks a lot DD; thanks a lot, AIR; Thanks a lot Prasar Bharathi.
