Badaka Singhanpura Youth Celebrating Durga Puja

The youth of Badaka Singhanpura has been very active in many activities of the village. They have been active in organizing various competitions related to games & sports. They have been active in construction of the link roads. They have been active in cleanliness drive. They have been active in repair of electricity in the village. They have been active in organizing cultural activities including Yagya. They have been active in organizing Vichar Goshthi, a tradition started by the great soul, great son  & great man of the village Prof (Dr) Rabindra Nath Ojha.

And the youth of Badaka Singhanpura has also been very active and enthusiastic in organizing Durga Puja.Tyagi Navyuvak Club of the village has been organizing Durga Puja every year in which almost everyone  of the village has his/her participation in one way or the other. Even they reach out to villagers settled in different parts of the country. They continue to get tremendous support & encouragement from the Badaka Singhanpura Pravasi Sangh also.

Shri Rathindra Kumar Ojha, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India  who hails from this village, has always been source of inspiration and encouragement for the inhabitants of the village specially the youth. Though this year he could not make himself available in the village but he could not resist the temptation of  sending his "Aashirvachan" through WhatsApp :

"Badaka Singhanpura is celebrating Durgapuja with devotion, pomp & splendour. Bigger in size & dimensions than previous year. Youth and elderly join hands to raise donations. Requests have been received from all three organizers. On preliminary estimates more than 3 lakhs will be spent in honour of divine Devi. But not much is done for the Devi  and girls present in our homes. Many of us have not been able to provide toilets for them. I ponder whether we could come together to ensure toilets in each household for perfect environment for celebrating Durga Puja. Mahisasur of Gandgi has to be killed by divine Durga. We have to be soldiers of Maa Durga to kill Mahisasur of Gandgi. Wish every one a great Durgapuja & Happy Dashahara."

Greenwood School of Dimapur Nagaland  representing India in 2015 Asian Youth Football Festa  from 7th to 9th August held in Anseong City Republic of Korea  finished a glorious second position  in U-12 football tournament  in their group.

A total of 47 teams from around  15 countries from Asia participated in this grand Festa which has a motto "Play Together, Dream Forever"  harmonizing football & culture. The unique football festa has unique objective- Football+Camping+Culture Experience.

India participated for the first time in this Festa which started in 2013. Greenwood School of Dimapur Nagaland got this opportunity for the first time to go out of the state and represent India in an international event. They got the opportunity for the first time to play on Astroturf. They got the opportunity for the first time to play soccer with different countries of Asia. They got the opportunity for the first time to travel by air that too in  international flights also. So this was a great opportunity for those young budding players to get them exposed to so much of different & surprising & exciting experiences. 

On the 8th of August Indian team played with two teams of Korea namely Seoul Gwangjin U-12 & A.DFC U-13. They defeated both the teams convincingly, in the first match by 4-0 and in the second match 2-0 respectively. Thulunso made a hat-trick in the match against Seoul Gwangjin.  On the following day they had to play first match  with Thailand. In this match Thailand defeated Indian Team 3-0. But this could not dampen the spirits of Indian Team in the second match that they played with  Xi'an AIZI Footbal Club China. Indian Team defeated China 7-1. Thus Indian team could win 3 out of 4 matches in their group and  finished with 2nd position.

Greenwood School has been selected to represent India in 2015 Asian Youth Football Festa  by virtue of winning the 2014 U-14 Subroto Cup.

Surprisingly for the boys of Indian Team, Second Secretary in the Embassy of India  in Korea Shri Mijito Vinito IFS (2010) who himself belongs to Nagaland, all the way drove down from Seoul to Anseong Sports Complex to cheer the Indian Team. 

Sh Vivek Narayan, Director in the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports  was head of the delegation which included  12 players plus Mughato Sumi  (Coach) & Sedeleu Peseyie (Principal of Greenwood School ). Media team from Doordarshan  led by Dr Ajay Kumar included Sanjeev Soni & K.Magesh Rao (Cameraperson).

It will not be out of context to mention what  Swami Vivekanand has once said about the importance of playing football: 

"First of all, our young men must be strong. Religion will come afterwards. Be strong, my young friends; that is my advice to you. You will be nearer to Heaven through football than through the study of the Gita. These are bold words; but I have to say them, for I love you. I know where the shoe pinches. I have gained a little experience. You will understand the Gita better with your biceps, your muscles, a little stronger. You will understand the mighty genius and the mighty strength of Krishna better with a little of strong blood in you. You will understand the Upanishads better and the glory of the Atman when your body stands firm upon your feet, and you feel yourselves as men. Thus we have to apply these to our needs."

A Conference on 2015 Asian Youth Football Development was held in Solution Hall of LS Miraewon on 9th August as a part of 2015 Asian Youth Football Festa (7-9 August) in picturesque, peaceful & pollution-free historic Anseong City of Republic of Korea to discuss & share ideas about how to develop youth football in Asia.

It has also the purpose of setting up the organizing committee for Asian Youth Football Festa and discussion about the host country for next Festa & to provide representatives from each Asian country with place to exchange the opinions about the development of youth football.

Surprisingly for the boys of Indian Team, Second Secretary in the Embassy of India  in Korea Shri Mijito Vinito IFS (2010) who himself belongs to Nagaland, all the way drove down from Seoul to Anseong Sports Complex to cheer the Indian Team.

My Friend My Inspiration

We  do interact with several people from the very childhood days of our life but some interactions become immemorable, become heart touching. Such interactions do not fade out easily from our memories. Actually they leave an indelible imprint in one's mind. I can also recall one such interaction when I was a student of K.R.High School, Bettiah, supposed to be one of the best schools in whole of North Bihar.

I had a batchmate named Dharmraj Khatait . Dharmraj was a very simple man, very innocent and ignorant of worldly manipulations and manoeuvres. He was having flat nose and squint eyes, and belonged to Tarai  region of Indo-Nepal border. This area is better known as Tharuhat in West Champaran Bihar. I could observe some students of my class throwing nasty comments or remarks upon him such as "Bagad", "Fool", "Uncultured". But this boy used to attend classes without getting disturbed.

This so called "Bagad" boy became a very good friend of mine just because he possessed a transparent personality, just because he was always wearing a pleasant smile on his face - very cool, calm and composed. So much impressed was I with his personality and behaviour that once I visited his village in Tharuhat. I have no hitch or hesitation in stating that I used to find myself much comfortable in his benign company. He appeared to be God-incarnate for me because of his crystal clear personality. Later I also came to know that he belonged to Tharu Community - a deprived, exploited and most backward group of people of West Champaran Bihar.

Interaction with the Tharu people started with the friendship with Dharmraj, continued with the passage of time. My curiosity to know more and more about them grew. I have seen and observed the nature and personality of many Tharu boys , who used to frequent my house in Bettiah, headquarter of West Champaran district. They were all students of my father Bihar Vibhuti Prof(Dr) Rabindra Nath Ojha who was Professor and Head Department of English, M.J.K. College Bettiah. Their simplicity and innocence always attracted me towards them.

My father was also very much impressed with their simplicity. He even wrote a very beautiful and heart-touching short essay on one of his students Ramnarayan a Tharu and thus immortalized him. This essay later became part of his book "Shivam Sundaram" published in the year 2000.

Those indelible imprints and impressions of the Tharus I carried alongwith me when I landed in Delhi in 1980 and joined Jawaharlal Nehru University for higher academic pursuits. It took almost no time for me to decide the topic of my research when I enrolled myself for Ph.D in 1985 after completing my MA and M.Phil. I would have taken any topic that too in Delhi itself like other batchmates but for me it was undoubtedly to be on the Tharus of West Champaran district of Bihar - the most deprived, the most neglected, the most exploited lot subjected to inhuman conditions even in this age.

So seed of my Ph.D thesis was sown during my growing friendship with Dharmraj Khatait a Tharu Tribe. Dharmraj Khatait has been my friend my inspiration.

"Most secular people are pro-Muslims and anti-Hindu. They protest against the acts of Hindu fundamentalists and defend the heinous acts of Muslims fundamentalists. Politicians appease Muslims for votes. This annoys many Hindus. In Canning, a Hindu village in West Bengal was burnt  down by Muslims fanatics in 2013. If Muslims were brutally persecuted in India, they would have left India for neighbouring Muslim countries like Hindu minorities have been leaving Bangladesh and Pakistan since partition." Taslima Nasreen said in an interview with the Times of India.

Taslima Nasreen must be saluted for such a bold statement on  such a controversial issue which has been dogging India for many decades. When her book was banned in West Bengal and when five fatwas were issued against her, most of the writers chose to remain silent. The writers  or intellectuals should not be anti-Hindu or pro-Muslim. Why should not they be pro -Human? Of course then that would not  have brought them into limelight perhaps. Then that would not have increased the TRP of different channels also.

Writers, intellectuals talk of post Godhra riots but they do not talk of the cause of Godhra riots that is Godhra train carnage in which hundreds of innocent  people including women and children coming from Ayodhya after worship were burnt alive, tortured, even some of the women gang-raped. We are not aware of  their situations even today in which  many families were destroyed, because they were from majority community hence perhaps not human beings not even vote banks, not even fodder for media or writers or intellectuals. A major incident related to majority community do not hit the headlines but a minor incident of a minority community is blown out of proportions. Loss of any human being is the loss of the country not of majority or minority. How many of us know that a Muslim couple gave a birth to their son  in one of the temples in Mahrashtara with the support and assistance of Hindu women present in the temple? 

Pseudo secularists, pseudo intellectuals, pseudo writers, it seems, try to project themselves anti-Hindu to get the attention of media otherwise they should have been pro-human. They should protest all kinds of exploitation, oppression. 

Again faith of minority is faith not to be questioned at all but faith of majority is subject to all kinds of debate, discussion. Personal Laws of minority can not be debated or challenged but personal laws of majority open to debate and vulnerable to continuous modifications/changes. 

Holy books of minority cannot be debated but  holy books of majority are open to all kinds of criticism and debate. Nothing can be written on holy persons of minority or become subject of paintings but holy devis or devtas of majority  can become subject of writers, intellectuals, painters. Why do not these so called pseudo secularists play with the faith of minority?

Let us become true secular but  not like pseudo secular who are pro-Muslim and anti-Hindu. Let us become secular  by becoming neither pro-Muslim nor pro-Hindu nor anti-Hindu or anti-Muslim  but and but  by becoming pro-Human.
