Presenting a Book on Tharus to a Tharu Woman of West Champaran

Presenting a Book on Tharus to a Tharu Woman of West Champaran

I had the privilege of  meeting Damyanti Kumari Ji on 19 February  in stall no. 157 of Adi Mahotsav 2025 (16-24 February) organized in National Stadium, New Delhi. This Mahotsav was inaugurated on 16 February by Hon'ble President Draupadi Murmu Ji.

Adi Mahotsav is a national tribal festival which is organized every year by Ministry of Tribal Affairs and TRIFED at multiple locations throughout the country showcasing the authentic products of tribal art and craft at reasonable prices. Fest also includes folk dance performances, traditional food and other activities.

Damyanti ji comes from Mishrauli village of Tharuhat of West Champaran and she belongs to Tharu Schedule Tribe. The Tharus of West Champaran became Schedule Tribe in 2003.

Damyanti Ji was a teacher earlier and now a successful woman entrepreneur. With the help of self help women group she produces towels and bedsheets (Chadar)  through handloom. Adi Mahotsav has provided a huge platform for her to sell and market her products.

I seized the golden opportunity to present one of my books on Tharus of West Champaran to a Tharu woman of West Champaran that is Damyanti Ji . The Name of my  book is " From Pasturization to Pauperization of the Tharus" : The Tharu Tribe of West Champaran. This book is published by Anuradha Prakashan, Delhi and is available on Amazon.
