THARUS OF WEST CHAMPARAN(THARUHAT)
(All the images are subject to IPR)
Tharuhat of West Champaran has been the most neglected and exploited region of Bihar for even more than five decades after Independence.
Granting of Schedule Tribe status to the Tharus of West Champaran was also delayed for decades. After much struggle these tribes got the Schedule Tribe status in 2003 where as the Tharus of Uttar Pradesh (Now Uttarakhand also) attained this status just after Independence.

Two and half decades earlier there was perhaps no Television in the region not even Black & White whereas colour TV had been introduced in the country during 1982 Asian Games held in Delhi.
Before the arrival of 21st century there were only few (can be counted on finger) TV sets in Bakhari Bazar village of Ramnagar block as there was no electricity in the area. TV sets were being operated from battery with much difficulty as it was not possible for every family to afford. Only terrestrial transmission of Doordarshan National Channel was available.

But now the situation has changed. Electricity has reached in the region and satellite TV has made entry. Now people can view a number of channels without any problem in this remote area through DTH.
We can now see DISH installed on many of the houses of Tharus. Thus the whole world has entered into every small house in the form of various entertainment and news channels.
