Verinag Garden Facing Verinag Spring Anantnag Jammu & Kashmir

There is a beautiful garden known as Verinag Garden facing Verinag Spring - the major source of river Jhelum (ancient name 'Vitasta'). A water channel comes out of Verinag Spring and runs through the garden then converting into Jhelum river. There is an ancient temple also just in front of the Verinag Spring and in the Verinag Garden.The whole complex of Verinag Garden and Verinag Spring is an important and popular place of tourist destination. Verinag Spring situated in Verinag of Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir lies at the entry point of Kashmir valley right after crossing Jawahar Tunnel and Verinag is also known as Gateway of Kashmir.There is an octagonal stone basin at Verinag Spring and an arcade surrounding it. This spring is known to never dry up or overflow. It is a major source of river Jhelum - known as 'Vitasta' in ancient period. Verinag Spring and arcade surrounding it is officially recognized as a Monument of National Importance by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). This spring is also known as 'Nilakunda'. The spring is at the exact centre almost 50 feet under water from where the water continuously comes up and flows into gardens facing the spring. Verinag Spring is a sacred place for the Hindus as there is Shivlinga in one of the arcs - the very first on the left of the entry of Spring.The historical garden has also an ancient temple. Verinag Spring is the major source of Vitasta (Jhelum) river situated in the Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir.It is 26 km away from Anantnag and 78 km from Srinagar - summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir. A shivlinga can be seen in one of the arcs -the very first on the left hand side of the entry of the spring. The spring is an important tourist destination in the Kashmir valley. Situated at 47 km from Srinagar , Yousmarg is a hill station in the western part of Kashmir valley in Jammu & Kashmir India.It has many tracks such as Dragdolan Burga Track, Nilnag Track, Doodh Ganga/Hygen Track. Doodh Ganga finds its name due to the white foam formed by the unbridled gushing of water armoured by the meadows of Yousmarg. World Sparrow Day is  celebrated  every year on 20th March to raise awareness of the house sparrow and other common birds to urban environments. This is also to convey the message of conservation of the house sparrow and other common birds, and also to appreciate  the beauty of common diversity. House sparrow  is becoming endangered and extinct not only in urban areas but also in rural areas. So watching sparrows in such huge number chirping  on a  tree in the campus of Doordrshan Srinagar is really heartening and encouraging. This rare video captures the  rare moments of not-to-be-seen house sparrows  chirping in huge number on a tree.

Magnificent Manasbal Lake Jammu & Kashmir

Located in Ganderbal district of Jammu & Kashmir India. The name Manasbal is said to be a derivative of the world renowned  Mansarovar Lake near Mount Kailash in Tibet. Manasbal lake is stated to be the deepest lake (43 ft depth) in India. It is  also one of the largest natural stamping grounds of Aquatic birds in Jammu & Kashmir and supposed to be "supreme gem of all Kashmir Lakes".

The lake is surrounded by the Baladar mountains on the east, by an elevated plateau known as 'Karewa' on the north and bounded by the Ahtung hills in the south.

Mata Kheer Bhawani Jee Temple is situated near village Tul Mul , around 25 km east of  Srinagar of Jammu & Kashmir India. The worship of Kheer Bhawani is universal among the Hindus of Kashmir. The rice pudding that is kheer, is offered in the spring to propitiate the Goddess, which became part of the name of the temple.Swami Vivekananda and Swami Ram Tirtha also visited this place to have the darshan of the Goddess. The mention of Kheer Bhawani is found in Kalhan's Rajtarangini also.Tul Mul is also derived from the Sanskrit word "Atulya Mulya" meaniing great value.

The University of Jammu & Kashmir was established in the year 1948. It was bifurcated into two full-fledged universities in 1969.

University of Kashmir at Srinagar and University of Jammu at Jammu. 

University of Kashmir is situated at Hazratbal in Srinagar.

University of Kashmir is flanked by Dal Lake on its eastern side and Nigeen Lake on the western side.

The main campus of the University is divided into three parts - Hazratbal campus, Mirza Bagh campus and Naseem Bagh campus.

University of Kashmir has moved towards excellence in its programmes  and  activities.  It  has  been  re-accredited      as  
Grade - A University in 2011 by NAAC (National Assessment & Accreditation Council) of India.
