Unique Rugby Manipuri Style Rugby - Yubi Lakpi

Video uploaded by Dr Ajay Kumar Ojha

This video "From the Eyes of Dr Ajay Kumar Ojha" gifts viewers a unique Rugby - Manipuri Style Rugby that is Yubi Lakpi. "Yubi" in Manipuri means coconut and "Lakpi" snatching. It is generally played on the beautiful turf of the palace ground or at the Bijoy Govinda Temple Ground. Each side has seven players in the field. The field is about 45x18 metres in area. One end of the field has a rectangular box of 4.5x3 metres. One side of the field forms the central portion of the goal line. To score a goal a player has to go the goal from the front with his oiled coconut and pass the goal line. The coconut serves the purpose of a ball and is offered to the king or the judges who sit beyond the goal line. Yubi Lakpi has been one of the seven games played at Indigenous Games Festival held in Imphal Manipur India from 10th to 12th December 2015. Interesting. Isn't it?
