"DON'T CELEBRATE MOTHER'S DAY" SAID ANNA JARVIS- THE CREATOR OF MOTHER'S DAY

"DON'T CELEBRATE MOTHER'S DAY"
SAID ANNA JARVIS- THE CREATOR OF MOTHER'S DAY

The holiday has become a 'perversion of the simple joy of honouring loved ones'.

Second Sunday in May is celebrated as Mother's Day. Most of the people may not be aware that American Anna Jarvis spearheaded the first Mother's Day events in 1908 to honour her own mother, a Sunday School Teacher and caregiver for wounded soldiers during the Civil War. She led a campaign to make it an official holiday. The US Congress recognized it as a good thing and Woodrow Wilson signed it into law in 1914.

Mother's Day is celebrated in over 50 countries. But by 1920 Anna Jarvis started requesting people to stop buying flowers and cards for their mothers. In a press release, she told  that florists and greeting card manufacturers were "charlatans, bandits, pirates, racketeers, kidnappers and termites that would undermine with their greed one of the finest, noblest and truest movements and celebrations."

Anna Jarvis spent the rest of her life trying to abolish the holiday she founded. Is not it a fact that mothers have been pushed into being remembered on just one day and Mother's Day has been over- commercialized undermining the feelings, emotions, selfless sacrifice attached to motherhood?

माता मत्सकाशं सदा

Mother is with me forever

Every day is mother's day, every moment is mother's moment then why to limit mother in just one day? For us Motherhood is felt every second, motherhood is celebrated every minute and adored every day.
